2022 was another highly productive year for our growing band of volunteers.
Our membership reached an impressive 2,000 by the end of 2022, up from 375 in June 2020.
Most of our work was conducted in the London Borough of Ealing, but since acquiring Thames 21 River Action Group status in March we cleaned many tonnes of rubbish from the River Brent and its banks, including in the London Borough of Brent.
16,506 volunteer-hours donated
32,449 bag-equivalents of rubbish logged, comprising:
18,143 bags of rubbish
11,735 bags’ worth of unbaggables
1,677 bags of recyclables
894 bags of leaves
272 group events organised
We cleaned streets (including every street in Northolt during the Great Big Northolt Cleanup, held during Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean), parks, rivers and canals, we planted flowers, gardens and hedges, we brightened the borough with postbox toppers, we supervised young people from all over the UK who are litter picking for their Duke of Edinburgh awards, we spread the environmental message to young people in schools and youth groups, we reported hundreds of flytips and helped catch flytippers, we negotiated for additional bins for residents as well as in parks.
This is just some of what we achieved in 2022. Huge thanks to everyone who has contributed in any way, including Ealing Council’s Street Services and Parks teams, and their cleansing contractor Greener Ealing Ltd.
